Sheep EID Tags - New Regulations & Rebate Available
Sheep EID Tags - What You Need to Know
As you would have heard in the news in recent months the Government has set a date for mandatory EID tagging of sheep and goats in Western Australia. From 1st January 2025 any sheep or goat that is born or leaves your property will need to be fitted with an electronic (EID) tag. There are no exemptions to this rule and it will apply to all classes of sheep and goats, even those going direct to slaughter.
To assist in this process and encourage growers to get onboard early, the Government has just announced a 75c rebate on certain approved EID tags. Currently this rebate only applies to 2023 year tags (Sky Blue) and is limited to Allflex RapID tags, Allflex Tamperproof Tags, Leader Multitronic tags and the Shearwell EID tag. This rebate will be applied at a supplier level so there is no need to claim back once you get your tags - the discount will be applied at point of sale.
Please note that at this stage the rebate will be open until the 30th June 2023 but is subject to being closed early if the allocated funds are utilised.
Below is a summary of each of the approved rebate tags. These are not the only sheep EID tags available, just the ones approved for the current rebate. I am aware of other brands who are hoping to get their tags included in future possible rebate schemes, however nothing has been confirmed going forward as yet!
Please contact Fleur on 9765 1001 or fleur.mead@boyupbrookco-op.com.au if you have any further questions or would like pricing on any of these tags.
If you would like to take up this offer I would encourage you to act soon as there is likely to be a flurry of orders which could increase lead times and, as mentioned, there is a limited amount of funds available on this current rebate.
Allflex

Allflex have two options for approved EID tags, the RapID tag and the Lightweight Tamperproof Tags.
The RapID tags are the same pin and hole design as the Allflex Flexitag but has it's own manual or automatic applicator as the pin is thicker due to the electronic device inside. These come in strips of 20 tags.
The Lightweight Tamperproof tag is similar to the cattle EID devices and can be applied with the same applicator - either an Identiplier (which has a flick out pin) or Universal Applicator (where the pin is static).
Leader

Leader Multitronic Tags are the pin and hole style tag with the electronic piece on the hole (bottom) side. These come in strips of 10 and are applied using a manual applicator.
Shearwell

Shearwell EID tags are a pin and hole style tag with the electronic piece in the hole (bottom) side.
These come in strips of 10 which you pull apart to use the manual tagger or slip into the tag rings which then attach to the automatic tagger. When you purchase the automatic tagger you receive 2 x rings, with additional rings available for minimal cost. These can then be preloaded with tags for each run.
